Chemical Composition: CaF2+(C, Cl, Ce, Fe, Y) *Part of the feldspar family and can be separated by flakes.

Hardness: 4

Colors: Purple, green, white, yellow, pink, black, blue, and/or magenta, maybe rainbow colored.

Location: England, Spain, USA, Mexico, but mainly China.

History and Legend:

  • The name comes from the Latin verb fluere, meaning in a state of flux or to flow.
  • In 1965 Fluorite was designated as the state mineral for Illinois
