Location: Only found in one area of the world, near the Chara River area of eastern Siberia.
History and Legend: Charoite has only been known to the West since 1976 and was named after the river it was found near, the Chara River. Carved by the Mongolian peoples, Chaorite is used to make decorative objects and, on special celebrations, the object is taken and boiled in tea. The family members all drink the tea to strengthen family ties and to protect the family from harm.
